Easiest Apple Pie

1 recipe flaky pie dough

1/3 cup light brown sugar

1 cup all purpose flour

6 T unsalted butter, melted

2 ½ pounds firm, tart apples such as

Granny Smith or Golden Delicious

2/3 cup brown sugar

2 T all purpose flour

1 t ground cinnamon

1 t finely grated lemon zest

3 T cold unsalted butter


Roll the prepared dough out and line the pan. Chill the crust while preparing the topping and filling.

To make the topping combine the sugar and flour in a mixing bowl. Add the butter and stir in evenly. Set the mixture aside for 5 minutes then use your fingertips to break the mixture into crumbs. Set aside.

Preheat the oven to 400F.

Peel, halve and core the apples, Cut into ½ dice or slices. Place in a bowl with remaining ingredients except the butter. Toss well to combine. Place filling in the dough-lined pan and dot with the cold butter. Top with the crumb topping.

Bake at 375F. Bake for about 40 minutes or until the crust and topping are baked through and a deep golden brown and the filling is gently bubbling. Cool on a rack.
