Urban Chef offers hands-on cooking classes designed to hone your culinary skills and give you an in-depth understanding of ingredients and cooking methods so that you can cook confidently with and for others. We offer a variety of classes for every level including knife skills workshops, kids classes, singles nights, date nights private and group classes and team building. All of our evening classes include a family-style meal; you are welcome to bring a bottle of wine.

Hands-on Cooking ClassesAll of our classes are entirely hands-on and we offer a wide range of cuisines and levels to help you become more comfortable in the kitchen and to expand your culinary knowledge! We offer knife skills workshops for beginners and pros. Bring someone special to our "Date Night" class or meet someone special in one of our "Singles Nights" classes. Most of our classes are $75/person. Date nights are $140/couple. Corporate Team BuildingStrengthen your department's communication and trust as you work together to prepare a fabulous meal! We offer competitive and more relaxed formats for groups of all sizes. Try our Iron Chef competition or learn to roll gnocchi by hand. We will coordinate the perfect event for your group!Knife Skills WorkshopsLearn to speed through your kitchen prep work and master mis-en-place with our bi-weekly Knife Skills Workshops. You will learn how to sharpen and care for your knives and how to cut fruits and vegetables easily and evenly for beautiful and professional results.Kids' ClassesIt's never to early to learn the basics behind cooking! Our kids classes designed for kids ages 6 to 12 (see particular classes for appropriate age range). We teach about food science, art, taste and nutrition in every class and your child will enjoy being treated like a grown-up as we assist them in making food from scratch.Kids get to measure, combine, mix, knead and garnish. We offer a wide selection of seasonal menus and each kids class is taught by chefs with professional culinary backgrounds.

FAQ

When will you reopen?We are currently on schedule to open in January. We are still open at our Palm Street location for private events in December.If I have a giftcard expiring before you reopen can you extend it?Yes! All gift certificates and cards have been updated in our new system and no longer expire. You should be able to use your gift cards to schedule classes online, in person or by phone. If you have any trouble please contact us at (713) 504-1700.Are your classes truly hands-on?Yes! You will not have to take turns working on small parts of the menu or simply watch a teacher demonstrating techniques. The format is fully hands-on. You will be oriented to the kitchen and learn some safety basics to working with others in a kitchen and immediately begin preparing the menu. Each student will have their own station in the kitchen with easy access to a stove, oven and equipment. How long do the classes last?Most classes are designed to run about two and a half hours if they start on time. Half an hour is reserved at the end of class to enjoy your meal, ask questions and get to know your fellow classmates. You are welcome to stay longer!Will food be served during class?Yes. You are welcome to eat as you cook, and the class concludes with a full meal that you have prepared. Most classes end with enough food for students to bring some of their work home to share with friends or family.Are beverages included?Non-alcoholic beverages are included as well as any alcohol used in the recipes. You are welcome to bring wine or beer as well. How many students are in a class?Our class size varies but most classes average 12 students and we cap classes at 20. How do you accommodate larger groups?urbanCHEF now offers two very large kitchens and for groups larger than twenty we recommend reserving in advance sot that both kitchens and the dining room can be used for your group. Please call (713) 504-1700 to discuss different formats available for large groups. Are private classes for small groups available?Yes. If you have a small group that would like a fun and informative private class, please contact us. For a selection of classes you can visit our course listings and choose from any course listed or you can request a particular subject. We will be offering in-home classes with a professional chef beginning this Spring for small private parties and for one-on-one instruction. What does your facility look like?We are still contructing our new space on Wesleyan but you can follow our progress on our Facebook page.

We're Moving! Coming soon to 3838 Richmond Ave.

We are excited to announce that we are moving Urban Chef to the Greenway Commons center at Richmond and Wesleyan! We will be on the second floor, between Firehouse Subs and Spa/Now in the retail center that shares a parking garage with Costco and LA Fitness.Our new space will be home to two beautiful, large kitchens and a large dining space. We will be offering more classes and can accommodate much larger groups. As we transition into this space we are still open on Palm Street for private classes through December.
